The glass that made Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) famous is a fusion of normal opalescent white glass and clear 'antique' colored glass. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Tiffany Studios in New York used this inventive glass to design the most beautiful lamps with different motifs, such as floral and animal designs, but also geometric patterns. The lampshades were beautiful in combination with light bulbs that his friend Thomas Edison produced. Not only the glass lampshades were made with such care: the lamp bases were also works of art in themselves. These often had a shape that harmonized with the design of the glass shade, such as a branch with leaves, a tree trunk, a flower or even a graceful lady. These beautifully organically shaped feet were often cast in bronze. Original Tiffany lamps are very popular at the moment.
